Minnesota Young Adult Education RequirementsThe State of Minnesota requires all beginning drivers to hold an instructional permit for a minimum period of time regardless of age. When an individual turns 18, he/she must pass the driver’s license knowledge test, obtain an instructional permit and hold it for at least six (6) months. After that period of time, he/she is eligible to take the road test. If an individual is 19 or older, he/she must hold the permit for at least three (3) months. State law does not require adults 18 years of age or older to complete classroom or behind the wheel instruction before obtaining his/her license. However, if an adult fails the road test four (4) times, he/she must complete six (6) hours of behind the wheel instruction with a licensed instructor. If you are an adult beginning driver and would like driving lessons, call to schedule an appointment. We will pick you up at your home if you live within the Duluth city limits or close outlying areas. For farther outlying areas we will establish an agreed upon meeting place. The lesson will last one hour and you will be dropped off at your home or an agreed upon site. We will evaluate your driving skills after each lesson and give you specific skills to practice. You pay as you go. We do not have a minimum number of lessons you need to take. You determine the number of lessons you feel you need to become a safe, defensive driver. Please contact our office for current behind the wheel instruction rates or if you would like to set up an appointment. |
